Accident at SuSAG Claims 23 lives

SuSAG Director Anton Solati Missing, Presumed Dead

In the early hours of this morning the SuSAG manufacturing facility on Up Port was extensively damaged by fire and explosions. Twenty three employees of SuSAG were killed or are listed as "missing, presumed dead", including SuSAG Regional Director Anton Solati.

Regina Starport Authority was forced to close blast doors in that section of the Starport as the facility lost structural integrity and vented debris into space. It took approximately three hours for the Regina Emergency Services to bring the four alarm fire under control.

Assistance in rescue efforts for trapped SuSAG personnel was also provided by the crew from the Imperial Navy Heavy Cruiser Arbatrella, which was docked nearby and witnessed the station breach.

It is believed from witness statements that there was a fire in the facility that preceded the explosions that breached the outer wall of the facility.

Witnesses also state that the initial fire and explosions centered it the research laboratory area of the facility.

The cause of this accident is still under investigation by the authorities. A spokesman for the Regina Emergency Services stated that the investigation and body recovery can not start until the engineers have finished structural shoring of the facility.

The spokesman stated that it is possible that not all of the bodies will be recovered, given the size of the outer wall breach in the station. The spokesman acknowledged that the SuSAG Laboratory is licensed to store highly volatile chemicals, which are used in their research.
