Grand Duchess Katerina Weds

Emperor's sister marries Marches noble Mark Bach on Lunion

In a surprise announcement, news reached Regina today of the marriage of the Grand Duchess Katerina Zhakirov to Mark Bach, Duke of Lunion. Although Mark Bach has long been considered one of the most eligible bachelors in the Spinward Marches, the marriage to the Emperor's sister has stunned most of the Society commentators. Although Mark Bach was seen on the arm of the Grand Duchess during the recent visit of the Imperial Court to Rhylanor, there was clearly nothing to indicate that their relationship was anything deeper than adjoining name cards at the dinner table.

Bach has earned the reputation of a somewhat slippery bachelor after dating a number of notable women. While residing on Regina he was frequently seen in the company of Danerella Kalugin, prior to her marriage to William Grey, Duke of Rhylanor. Bach was even engaged to marry Regina Regent, Corina Ling-Raleigh, last year.

Until now, the Grand Duchess has been upholding the naval traditions of her family by serving on active duty with the Imperial Navy on board the Heavy Cruiser Nelson. It is not known whether the Duchess will resign her active duty commission in the Navy following the marriage.

The official press release from Lunion states that Grand Duchess Zhakirov and Duke Bach were married in a civil ceremony aboard the Imperial Heavy Cruiser Nelson while it was at space dock at Lunion on 18-1122. The announcement states that the couple will take a honeymoon cruise to Capitol, where more formal nuptial vows will be exchanged in the presence of members of the Imperial Court.

Regina Police Receive Pay Raise

Commissioner Globber today announced that the Regina Police will receive a pay raise designed to increase the standard patrolman's salary to a living wage. Globber stated that this pay raise is an indispensable piece of his reform of the department. He stated that the honest, hard working cops deserve a fair wage. He also stated that the pay raise will improve the department's ability to hire and retain good quality officers. Globber stated that because of his work with the Regent on the Regina Security budget, funds were freed up to double the salaries of sworn personnel within the department, without resorting to a tax increase. Globber stated that he anticipates that voluntary contributions from grateful area businesses to the Police Benevolent Fund will also enable him to substantially raise the pay of the non-sworn members of the Police Department.
